Wild TAILS is open for the season!
Before you "rescue", please call Wild TAILS at
(815) 758-2457 x 10104.

Each year, thousands of baby wild animals are removed from their habitats unnecessarily. Many wild babies are left alone for long periods of time while their mother forages for food. Baby fawns for example, may hide in underbrush alone for several hours until mom returns. Momma bunnies stay far away from their nest except for short periods of time in the morning and evening. Spending more time would alert predators to the location of her nest. Fledgling birds are often found in bushes and low branches of trees as they learn to fly. Mom is usually not far away and will feed them periodically until they're competent flyers. Removing these babies from their natural environment is not just unnecessary, it can damage their development. In spite of the excellent care they would receive if brought to Wild TAILS, nothing compares to being raised in the wild by their mother. So please, before you "rescue", make certain the wildling needs your help.

Find Your Next Best Friend at TAILS
Hi, my name is Rex and I'm a gorgeous chocolate lab
with a white stripe on my chest. I'm a big, goofy guy
who loves to play and play and PLAY. Hanging
out in TAILS fenced yard is loads of fun.
There I can chase tennis balls but I get easily distracted
by anything that goes by like birds, other dogs or people.
I'm a big, strong guy so I would prefer a home with kids over 7
That age, or older, are great to play with!
I'm a very smart guy and I know some commands,
am housebroken  and I can't wait to learn more things.
I really love people and I get a little anxious when everyone leaves.
The staff at TAILS can give you some tips to help me get
over this kind of thing. I'm a fun-loving, goofy guy that
wants an active and fun family to call my own.  Is that yours?

Hi, I'm Akasha, a sweet little girl
who is medium hair mix.
I'm 5-years old, healthy and
always use the litterbox.
My owners who have had me
since I was a kitten are moving
and couldn't take me with them.
I lived with children and cats and
quite wonderful to both, if I do say so.
I'm used to living indoors but like
to sunbathe & watch the world outside.
I'm a hefty girl at 14-pounds.
Please visit me in Kitty Korner
and take me home.
I'm PURR-fect for you!
Hey there, I'm Macy, a beautiful black lab/mix.
 I'm a very calm, quiet young lady.  I hadn't had a lot
of experience being handled but, while here
at TAILS, I now enjoy all the attention!
I love to be brushed and pampered. Outside in
TAILS fenced yard, I like to play
chase and jump in the snow in the winter.
I'm a spunky young girl that has to investigate
anything new.  I like walks but I do need a little more leash work.
Squeaky toys are the best but I also enjoy some down-time
with you on the couch. I would really like a FURever home
where I can love and be loved. Could that be yours?

Hi, my name is Allister.
I'm just a one year old boy and lived
with one person all my life.
My person moved to a place that
doesn't allow pets, even a cute kitty like me.
I lived with one other cat and right now
I'm living with lots of cats in TAILS
Dancing Cat Solarium.
I'm a sweet loving kitty who always uses the
litterbox. I like to sleep on the bed, if
that's OK with you. I'd sure like to
have a person to cuddle, play and
love. Please be my Forever Friend.

.

Hi, my name is Skippy and I'm a Red Collar pet
because I'm 14-years old. My adoption fee is reduced but that
doesn't mean I'm less of a dog! I'm a terrific dog!
I'm a Fox Terrier mix and my age may sound old
but this breed is known for living very long lives.
I'm an active little guy and ready to chase
a ball but I don't always like to return it!
I'm very sensitive to people's emotions and if
you need a cuddle to wipe away your blues, I'm here
for you. I like to know where everyone in the household is.
I love to be petted. One of my favorite spots is behind
my legs and good old ear scratches. I also enjoy
"hanging-out" with you and sitting on your lap.
I like to sleep cuddled in your arms. I'm a smart little guy
and know more commands than the average dog.
I'm a little love waiting for you!

Hello, my name is Emmit.
I'm a 12-year old male cat whose owner is moving
and can't take me with the family.
My family including teens, a toddler and a small dog.
I'm a very good cat and always use my litter box.
I'm a beautiful black cat with green eyes and
my front paws have been declawed.
I don't know why people don't adopt black pets
as quickly as they do other colors. We're
wonderful pets, honest. I have gorgeous green eyes.
I'm a little shy at first but once I get
to know you, I'm a sweet, loving boy.
I'm living in Witzie's Room.
Won't you visit me and take me home?

TAILS' 4-month old kittens Tamika, left, and Travis, right,
along with sibling Torrie are living and available for adoption
at PetSmart in Rockford on State St.

Six month old Fiona came to TAILS with her brother Shrek after they had been abandoned in a house. Their owner had recently been evicted and, when they moved out, they left the two great dane puppies behind. Fiona has severe pneumonia and, on Thursday April 14th, she had to be rushed to VCA Aurora where she was stabilized and her oxygen levels improved. On Monday the 18th, she was well enough to be released and was transferred to a well-trained TAILS foster to continue her care. She went back to VCA for more tests on Thursday the 21st and they did some bloodwork to determine whether the origin is fungal. As we await those results, we continue to treat Fiona and provides supportive therapy.
Update: April 30th - Fiona seems to have turned the corner - finally! She's bouncy and full of energy again. Thank you to everyone for your support - she's worth every penny!
Thanks so much for your support - $3,486 donated and $1,228 left to go!
Every donor will receive a guardian angel window cling as a token of our appreciation for your support (please indicate "For Fiona" in the instructions field). Thank you!
TAILS receives no public funding. We depend on the gifts of private citizens to allow us to continue our life-saving work.
